April 12, 2011
Welcome to the April Issue of the Galilee Newsletter - A monthly e-zine about the north of Israel and all that's new at this-is-galilee.com (TIG)
WHAT'S NEW AT TIG:
Vladimir sent me a list of links which he found useful while he was doing research for his holiday in Israel. He is an MD and homeopathy practitioner in Russia and has written four books in Russian about alternative medicine. He visited Israel as an independent tourist with his wife in 2009 and loved the Galilee. He will be returning again this May and will be staying in Tiberias.
Here's a bit about some of the sites he recommended, which I will be adding to my "Other Resources" page:
http://www.gogalilee.org This is an excellent site run by the Ministry for the Development of the Negev and the Galilee. While you're there, have a look at an article I wrote for them on green tourism: http://www.gogalilee.org/daytour.asp?p=9992 (in English) or http://www.gogalil.org/upper_galilee.asp?s=9978 (in Hebrew)
http://www.eyeonisrael.com Vladimir recommends this as the best interactive map of Israel on the internet and I have to agree with him. It's not so easy to find a good map of Israel in English as Googlemaps don't show any Israeli towns - only the surrounding countries - although I haven't been able to find out the reason for this.
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ListForums-g293977-i1733-Israel.html Of course, where would we be without Tripadvisor's trusted traveller reviews and opinions. I sometimes participate in the forums as "Galilgirl" - you will recognize the picture of the trees from the top of my webpages!
http://www.biblewalks.com This is a great site for other Christian tourists like Vladimir. It has a lot of great images and information as well as quotes from the Hebrew bible and New Testament.
If you would like to recommend websites, books or articles that you think will be useful additions to TIG, please contact me, and I will check them out.
FREE UPDATES! As usual, this month I've added new pages about places of interest, but now you can receive notifications of all my updates directly to your browser home page! All you have to do is click the RSS feed above the navigation bar on the top left-hand side of the page and subscribe to my site.
SHARE PAGES WITH YOUR FRIENDS! Did you find some interesting information? Share it with friends on Facebook or tweet about it on Twitter. See the buttons at the bottom of the page!
WRITE YOUR OWN REVIEW! If you've been to the Galilee or the Golan, tell others about the great places you've found there. Did you stay in a zimmer that was special or a green lodging that was eco-friendly? Did you find a restaurant that serves delicious food? Don't keep it to yourself - just fill in the form at the bottom of the appropriate page and I will publish your review at This-is-Galilee.com.
