This is Galilee (TIG) Newsletter, Issue #009 -- Festivals In the Galil and Voting For the Best Photo
December 14, 2011

So ... What's New ?

Welcome to the TIG Newsletter - A monthly e-zine about Northern Israel and all that's new at (TIG).

Happy Hanukka and Merry Christmas to all TIG subscribers!

This year, both Holidays fall at the same time so it's good news for tourism. In the Galilee, thousand of pilgrims will be visiting Nazareth during the Christmas period - worth a visit just to capture the atmosphere even if you're not a Christian!

Last month, I wrote about the Hula Nature Reserve and Agamon Hahula and this is the time to go there. The 2nd International Ornithology Festival is now underway and continues until 28th December.

For more information about the festival, visit the Go Galilee website which is sponsored by the Ministry for the Development of the Negev and the Galilee.

Another annual festival in the Galilee is the Olive Branch Festival which has just ended, but I just had to tell you about a great place I found for excellent olive oil and olives at reasonable prices...

Saba Haviv Olive Press is situated at the entrance to Kibbutz Parod on the 866 road which leads up to Sfat (Safed). It looks nothing like a shop from the outside but just follow the signs and you will find a nice shop stocked with bottles and cans of olive oil in various sizes, jars of olives, stone-ground tehina, date syrup - all of which I can personally recommend.

They also sell olive-oil soap and other natural cosmetics. For details of opening times call: 04-6849074 or 052-8061144.

Click here to see the best five photos received so far. Everyone is invited to vote and comment on the entries! You can comment on any of the photos and rate them from 1 to 5 stars.

Feel free to comment on as many photos as you want, but you can only vote once per photo - multiple votes by the same person will be deleted.

On 12th January, we count up the total stars received for each photo and that becomes the winner. Look out for the full story behind the winning photograph in the January 2012 Newsletter!

That doesn't mean you're too late to send in your photo - the final entry date is 31st December, 2011 so don't delay - send in your entries TODAY! Here's how!

SiteSell Promotion

If you've read my page How I Built My Site you'll know that I'm a big fan of SBI! (short for SiteBuildIt!).

If you're thinking of building a website, this is the time to do it - SBI! has a Holiday Special going on where you can buy-one-site and get-one-free. It ends up being about $150 per site.

If you don't need more than one site, you can always give the other one away as a gift to a family member. Or sell it. Or find a friend who wants a great deal too. Think about it! But don't think too long because the offer ends on 25th December!

Already got an SBI! website? Susie Eshel is hosting the first SBI seminar in Israel on 29th December - not to be missed! Contact me for details.

If you've been to the Galilee or the Golan, tell others about the great places you've found there. Did you stay in a zimmer that was special or a green lodging that was eco-friendly? Did you find a restaurant that serves delicious food? Don't keep it to yourself - just fill in the form at the bottom of the appropriate page and I will publish your review at TIG.

I've temporarily taken off the Facebook Comment option at the bottom of my pages until some bugs have been ironed out, but that doesn't mean you can't Follow me on Facebook or Tweet me on Twitter - just click the icons at the bottom of my webpages. And if you have a question about the Galilee, feel free to contact me at any time!

Did you know you can get notifications of all my updates directly to your browser home page? All you have to do is click the RSS feed above the navigation bar on the top left-hand side of the page and subscribe to my site. What's RSS? Watch this video for an explanation!

Or click on the Google, My Yahoo!, My MSN, or Bloglines button if you keep a personalised home page there. Just follow their instructions.

Did you find some interesting information? Share it with friends on Facebook or tweet about it on Twitter. See the buttons at the bottom of the page!
