What's New at TIG

Welcome to the June Issue of the Galilee Newsletter - A monthly e-zine about the north of Israel and all that's new at (TIG).

Last month we celebrated Lag Ba'Omer in Israel. If you don't live in Israel you might not know that this is the night when the kids have bonfire parties and hang out with their friends to all hours of the morning.

But on Mount Meron, next to Sfat, Lag B'Omer takes on a whole new meaning. Hundreds of thousands of believers gather here each year for an enormous celebration called Hillulah HaRashbi. This is in remembrance of the death of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, a famous Jewish scholar and mystic who died on this day in the 2nd century CE.

So when I saw a guided tour of Sfat and Meron before the Lag B'Omer celebrations, I decided to go and find out what all the fuss was about. I've been to Sfat many times, but I wanted to hear about how it became the capital of Kabbalah and Jewish mysticism and see the Jewish holy sites at Meron. Hundreds of religious families were already camping out on the slopes of Mount Meron so they can be first to get to the Rashbi's tomb - it was a really interesting trip and now you can read all about Sfat on my website.

The other holiday we've just had is Shavuot, when it's traditional to eat dairy food. This is my favourite holiday! First of all, it's in Spring which is the best season - the north of Israel is so green and beautiful and all the spring flowers are out. Secondly, I get to make my favourite cheesecake recipe - yummm! If you're interested, contact me and I'll be happy to share it (the recipe - not the cake!).

If you've been to the Galilee or the Golan, tell others about the great places you've found there. Did you stay in a zimmer that was special or a green lodging that was eco-friendly? Did you find a restaurant that serves delicious food? Don't keep it to yourself - just fill in the form at the bottom of the appropriate page and I will publish your review at
