This is Galilee (TIG) Newsletter, Issue #014 -- Planning Your Summer Holiday
May 17, 2012

Welcome to the Galilee Newsletter - A monthly e-zine about the north of Israel and all that's new at (TIG)

With the summer holiday season just around the corner, I've been doing some research into places to stay in Israel - especially in the Galilee - to add to my old favourites ...

I was interested to hear that Uri Yeramias of Uri Buri fame had opened a boutique hotel in Akko (Acre), not far from his restaurant, so we went to check it out. The "Efendi Palace" is an upmarket, exclusive hotel - not what you would expect to find tucked away down a narrow side street near the old port.

The hotel was reconstructed from a deserted ancient building which once served as a palace during the Ottoman era (Efendi means Ruler or Lord). There are 12 rooms of varying sizes which have been beautifully refurbished without losing the atmosphere of the old city.

The ceilings particularly caught my attention and Uri told us that he had brought a craftsman from Italy to restore the decoration as closely to the original as possible. You can see an example in the photo. Look out for more about the Efendi Palace at This Is Galilee later this month.

If you're looking for simple, clean, rural accommodation in the heart of the Galilee, you can't do better than the zimmers on Kibbutz Moran. My daughter and her husband stayed there a few months back and as they found the staff so helpul and friendly, I've been recommending it to all my friends. So this month, I decided to write a page about it and share it with visitors to my site, too. Click here to read about Kibbutz Moran Country Lodging.

I recently heard about another zimmer in Amirim which might be of particular interest to English-speakers. "At the Campbells in Amirim" is owned by Phillip Campbell, who is originally from London, and has lived in Amirim since 1973. They have two double guestrooms, each with a jacuzzi and a balcony where you can chill out and enjoy the beautiful pastoral view. You can contact Phillip on 04- 6989045 / 0545322640 or by email:

If you have read my story, you will know that I've only recently moved to the Galilee - our dream for quite some time. Previously we lived in the Herzlia area for many years and we have organised accommodation there for friends and family visiting from abroad.

The tourist area of Herzlia is called Herzlia Pituach, which is situated on the Mediterranean coast and has a beautiful white sandy beach. There's a marina with a shopping mall and variety of restaurants and it's only a quarter of an hour from Tel Aviv. As my site is specifically about the north of the country, I won't go into too many details here, but I would be happy to help anyone who is travelling around the country and would like help with accommodation in Herzlia. Contact me for details.
