This is Galilee (TIG) Newsletter, Issue #018 - Kibbutz Inbar
September 16, 2012

Welcome to the Galilee Newsletter - A monthly e-zine about the north of Israel and all that's new at (TIG)

What's New?

  • Shana Tova!
  • Travelling on a Budget - Kibbutz Inbar
  • Recommendations for Made-in-Israel Products

Shana tova means Happy New Year in Hebrew, and This Is Galilee wishes a happy and peaceful year to everyone who is celebrating the holiday in Israel and abroad.

I have had some requests lately for low-cost accommodation in the Galilee, so if you're travelling on a budget, I would like to recommend Kibbutz Inbar Country Guest House. As well as having 18 reasonably priced guest rooms, it has a dormitory which sleeps six with cooking facilities which they rent out for only 100 shekels/night!

Last month I visited Kibbutz Inbar - it's the smallest kibbutz in Israel, and I have to say I hadn't heard of it before, so I was interested to see where it was. We had no trouble finding it - it's easy to get to, not far from the main 85 road which runs west to east from Akko to Amiad Junction - a great, central position for sightseeing! It's not far from the Sea of Galilee (Lake Kinneret) and only about a 20-minute drive from Rosh Pina and Sfat.

I immediately felt the laid-back, tranquil atmosphere there and it's a great place to go to chill out and forget about the stresses of modern living. They also offer various alternative seminars and Tao workshops, including meditation, yoga, Tai Chi and so on.

Just a reminder that the last date for entries to the story writing contest is up at the end of this month (about another two weeks)!

To give you a bit of motivation, here are some more details about the prizes - but I recommend that you buy them even if you're not entering the competition!

  • Kidron Soaps:
All soaps are hand-made in Israel out of the finest ingredients. They do not include animal products and have not been tested on animals. Among the original fragrances you can choose from are Milk and Honey made with Black Bear Honey and fresh milk, Green Tea, which includes Israeli olive oil for maximum moisturization, Jerusalem Sunrise and Tel Aviv Nights. You can order the soaps from outside of Israel, too!
  • HaBe'er (The Well) Sauces and Confitures:
All HaBe'er products are hand-made using traditional methods in their factory near beautiful Rosh Pina in Upper Galilee. Almost all the fruits and vegetatables are grown locally and none of the products contain preservatives or artificial colouring. Whether you like like strawberry jam or something more unusual like pears in wine confiture, there's something for every taste. There are also a variety of delicious sauces with interesting flavours, such as eggplant and mint spread or preserved lemons spread, which is one of my favourites!

Back to the contest ... you can continue to vote until 15th October when I will be counting up the votes and the winners will be announced in next month's edition of TIG Newsletter. So now is the time to read some of the stories and choose your favourite/s. Don't forget ... it's up to you who wins a prize!
