About Me and This-is-galilee.com
Welcome to my website!
You have probably read a few pages and you may want to know more about me and where I get my information from. Why should you believe my tips and recommendations? Well, first of all, let me introduce myself - my name is Sara (that's me in the picture) and here's a little bit about me and my background so you can judge for yourself ...
Why Israel?
I made my first trip from London to Tel Aviv in 1976 when Israel
was a very young country and life was very different to how it
is today. I travelled all over the country (which is actually
not very big) but there's plenty to see, from the deserts in the
south to the mountains in the north. And from the sandy
coastline in the west to the Sea of Galilee (Lake Kinneret) and the Dead Sea to the east. It was love at first sight and the beginning of many trips to Israel.
Eventually, I decided to volunteer on a kibbutz - mostly picking oranges - and I learned some basic Hebrew. I returned to
England and worked for a travel agency selling holidays to
Israel. One day, while I was waiting on Piccadilly underground
station waiting for my train home I had one of those "lightbulb
above the head" moments. I just knew that I should be in Israel.
I can't say I never looked back - it has never been an easy
country to live in - but after more than 30 years here, I don't
regret my decision.
When I first arrived, I stayed in the tourist industry and
worked in several 5-star hotels in the centre of the country.
But my experience as an unofficial "tourist guide" came from
hosting friends and family over the years.
Why the Galilee?
After bringing up our three children in the centre of the country, I was ready for a change of lifestyle and so was my husband. We both wanted a quieter, slower pace of life - fresh
air and views over the mountains - food for the soul!
So, here we are in our new home in Kfar Hananya in Upper Galilee.
I'm still having fun writing about my favourite places and
others that have been recommended to me by friends and family. But now we have our own zimmer (B&B), which - of course - I can personally recommend! Click here for details and photos.
As you've probably realised by now, I love the Galilee and Northern Israel. There are no end of things to write about, so I hope you'll keep coming back to see what's new.
So, now you now know why I wanted to build this site, click here to see how I built it!
I hope you'll keep in touch - you can find me on Facebook or Twitter, or subscribe to my RSS feed at the top of the navigation bar on the left. What's this?
I've also got a FREE monthly newsletter about the north of Israel and all that's new at This Is Galilee (TIG).
You can take a look at the
back issues before you sign up. Then, just fill in your details below ...
