This romantic zimmer (B&B) in Mattat, Western Galilee, is my daughter's favourite getaway. I asked her why Erets Bereshit (Land of Genesis) B&B is a home away from home for her and her partner.
What was your first impression of the place?
Well, Gil and Ronit gave us a warm welcome. They're really nice friendly people and they made us feel comfortable straight away. To get to the zimmers, you have to walk down about 100, or more, wooden steps. It's probably not a good idea to come with a heavy suitcase, but we just had our backpacks so it was fine. Then the path divides and there's a little gate to get to your log cabin.
What makes this your favorite romantic zimmer?
As soon as you walk in, you feel relaxed - just really good energies. Gil has built the log cabins himself, including all the furniture so it's all very rustic. It's quiet and secluded and even though there's another zimmer, you're not overlooked. There's a big balcony which juts out from the hill and you can lie in the hammock and enjoy the amazing view across the valley below.
What did you like best?
The bedroom has a jacuzzi, but the best thing is the hot tub which is outside, next to the balcony. When you sit in it, all you can see are the trees! Once, we were there in the winter and we sat in the warm water with the rain falling on our faces it was so cool!
What about meals?
You can order breakfast from someone in the area who caters to other zimmers in Mattat. We don't, because there's anyway home-made bread and jam, eggs and milk in the kitchenette and we like to eat out in the local restaurants for our other meals. I must mention the home-made cherry liqueur which is delicious and also "on-the-house".
How are the prices?
We think the prices are reasonable for what you get. The right zimmer, where we stayed, costs 750 shekels a night mid-week but we stayed two nights, so we got a special price of 1,200 shekels. The left zimmer - without the hot-tub - is a bit cheaper.
Would you recommend Erets Bereshit to other couples?
Yes, definitely! We've already been twice and we'll be back again. It's so cozy - I feel like it's our home away from home.
